Tour of Derwent Valley

The Long Eaton 5 mile race (on the 10th of June) will be considered as flat as a pancake when compared to the four races in four days of the Hilly Tour of Derwent Valley just completed over the bank holiday weekend. With 23 Long Eaton runners doing at least one race in the series and 8 running all four the club was well represented.

The first race was held in Duffield and is considered the most gentle, followed by a 4.2 mile road and trail race in Wirksworth. The 3rd race and the second hardest was a rain soaked affair at Milford with runners completing a 5 mile route with the first 3 miles uphill and last 2 down.

The hardest was the 4 mile at Rowsley with a very steep climb for the first 2 miles and then a very steep decent to the finish. Long Eaton results were good overall with Alan Seamer finishing 2nd in the series and was 1st V45 man , John Birch was 4th and 2nd V45 man, Monica Fee finished as the 2nd woman, Phil Abbott was 14th in a new best time for the races of 2:01:10, Jodie Smith (36th) and Peter Fowles (44th) also set new best times. Zoe Fletcher finished 44th and was happy with her efforts. Colin Bostock running all four races for the first time was 33rd and was soaked for most of the weekend as he was camping near Whatstandwell for the duration of the races, Colin who was looking forward to a dry night at home was pleased by how quickly he had raced.
