Long Eaton Races
May day saw the running of the Belfast Marathon and Monica Fee of Long Eaton took part in her home town marathon, she was well rewarded with a new PB of 3:20:53 and 10th lady. She narrowly missed a prize of £1000 for being the 1st Belfast born runner to finish. Perhaps next year?
On the same day Long Eaton Running Club took part in the Southwell Trail, a completely flat “out and back” 5k race. PB's were set by Vicky Yeomans and Phil Abbott both benefiting from the marathon training that they had been doing. Mick McDermot and Graham Whitt also got new best times. The Abbott's have now got the running habit with 3 members of the same family taking part, Phil, Brione and Andy, with Andy (6) getting the biggest cheer of the night after crossing the the line in front of his mum, and although finishing near the back was pleased with his first big race.
The following Sunday, Shaun Burton and Ian Chant ran the “Dog and Hedgehog Half Marathon” held at the Bosworth Water park near Hinckley. The undulating course was quite testing but the weather was kind with a constant light drizzle to keep the runners cool and a perfect 12C temperature. Both Ian and Shaun liked the conditions with Ian setting a new PB of 1:23:07 and Shaun setting a new course best of 1:38:45 (If you account for the 25 seconds before crossing the start line)
