Darley Park XC
With standing water and rain adding to the already sticky, tricky ground at Darley Park in Derby, this race seemed to be a hard splash and dash in the mud for Long Eaton running club, but yet again the Long Eatonites made light work of the heavy conditions.
The course was different from the previous year but was still approx 5 miles for the men, with the ladies running 1 lap less and 3 miles. Alan Seamer was 10th in 35:16, Dave Stuart 17th in his first club race since October, Rich Wilkinson fresh from his fell race exploits clocked 37:20 with Rob Fox only 25 seconds later, Alan Maplethorpe ,Graham Whitt, Phil Abbott, Mario Rochelli and Rob Jackson had a great scrap with only 9 places separating the 5 runners.
The Battle of the Back was this week joined by guest star Ash Patel who kindly stood in for the injured John Hay, Ash managing to hold off by only 30 seconds the challenge of now “not so heavyman” Shaun Burton who has now lost 10 pounds.
Ash finished 63rd ,Shaun was 64th and 4 minutes quicker than last year. Colin Bostock looking strong at the end finished 75th in 45:25. Most improved runner Damien Cowlishaw completed the mens race in 47:59 a nine minute improvement on last year.
Jodie Smith running her first Long Eaton League race since the end of November picked up maximum with her 14th place overall in a time of 23:28. Vicky Yeomans was 25th less than 2 minutes behind Jodie. Thanks go to Jodie who recorded the results in the rain after she had finished her race and had to use a lip stick when she could not find a pen.
Don't forget that the Long Eaton Running Club will be holding their annual 5 mile race on the 10th of June. Details can be found on www.longeatonrunningclub.com
