Charnwood Hills
It seemed at the start it was going to be a cold morning to race at the Charnwood hills but in the end the sun came out and made it a lovely day to run around the Leicestershire countryside.
The advertised ‘toughest course in Leicestershire County’, at a distance of 13.2 miles as claimed by the organisers Bowline Climbing Club, was attended by 20 Long Eaton runners.
Conditions underfoot were ‘fair going’, with little mud with the exception of the shoe stealing quagmire in the last 100 meters
Leading the way for Long Eaton was Glen Coleman, followed by Alan Maplethorpe, Patrick Fitzgerald and Jon Hughes with these 4 runners securing 3rd overall team.
The rest then trotted in with Clive Allison, Phil Abbott, Jon Trindell, Ash Patel and John Hay all recording times of under 2 hours.
Completing the mens entrants were David Wilkinson, Colin Bostock, Damian Cowlishaw, Peter Fowles, Richard Mckie, Peter Sturgess and Kev Holland who claimed to be there for the post-race cakes and nothing else.
For the ladies Monica Fee lead the way with her 10th victory for the club wrapping up the internal championship followed by Annette Ellison and Vicky Yeomans. Jodie Smith completed the first & hardest half of the race before retiring with bad blisters.
Special thanks go to the travelling support of Louise Hughes, Peter & Ann Church and official club photographer Ian Wallis.
