Recent Races
With the London Marathon only 3 months away, runners are doing lots of races as well as many long training runs to be fit for April 22nd, with over 25 members of the Long Eaton Running Club accepted for the 26.2 miles in the capital city.
Good results have been set in recent races with Sharon Orridge becoming the veteran Ladies cross country race champion on the 21st of Jan. For the 2nd year running a Long Eaton Runner was 1st in the Folksworth 15 mile race with Rod Harris going one better place than last year in a fine time of 1:23:13 and along with Paul Lewis and Richard O'Sullivan both in the top 13, Long Eaton also took the 1st Team prize as well, Sarah Tucker had a fantastic race and finished in 1:34:50 and an overall position of 19th she was also 2nd Lady, Phil Abbott finished 79th in 1:47:40 and Vicky Yeomans was well below 2 hours in 176th place.
Andy McNeil and Neil Renault decided to race in the 4 Villages Half Marathon which is set in Helsby near Chester with over 1500 competitors entering. Long Eaton were done proud with Neil Finishing 5th in 1:09:50 and Andy was first vet with a time of 1:12:32 and overall 10th place.
One race in which the chances of a club member winning are lessened, is the Long Eaton 5 mile race, which is going to be held on 10th June 2007, with most members helping out with the organization of the race and not running. If you would like to run in June or find out more, the Long Eaton Running Club Web site (www.longeatonrunningclub.com) will have information and entry forms for the race in coming weeks.
