Erewash Cross Country
Fourteen seemed to be the number for Long Eaton Running Club at the Erewash Cross Country race held at Bramcote as 14th was the finishing position of the first home for LERC in both the Ladies and Mens races. Monica Fee completed the 1 Lap in 23.45 and Ian Adkin in the 2 lap mens race clocking just 40:06.
14 was also the number of Long Eaton men taking part in the race and with 100 in the race, fourteen was also the percentage of the starting line up. The wind not as bad compared to the high winds of the previous 3 days but it was cold and the hills were as tough as ever. The ground was good underfoot which helped provide fine performances from LERC.
Behind Monica in the ladies race was Debbie Parker who recorded 27:45 and 33rd place. In the mens Rob Fox was 2nd for the club followed by “Paddy” Fitzgerald in 27th. Junior runner Luke Seamer was in front of Alan Maplethorpe who managed to beat Mick McDermott as Mick managed to almost shed a shoe half way round the course and had to stop and tie his laces. Clive Alison was 47th in 45:15, Dave Riley doing his usual thing in running in his work trousers was next.
New member Rachella came home 59th in 47:48. In the battle of the back which usually includes John Hay, Shaun Burton, Colin Bostock and Damien Cowlishaw was joined by Phil Walters. John was the victor this time in 49:54 , Phil sprinting down the last hill just picked Shaun off on the line was 79th Colin was 4 seconds behind Shaun, and going back to the number 14 , Damien came home 14th place for Long Eaton in his 14th winter League race!
