Friskney Half Marathon & Darley Park Cross Country
A light covering of snow and raw winds didn’t deter Long Eaton’s runners on Sunday 5th March with squads competing at Friskney near Skegness and in the final round of the East Midlands Cross Country League at Darley Park.
In the Friskney Half Marathon six runners braved the strong, icy winds on a flat and fast course with four gaining personal bests despite the strength of the wind. First home for the club in 12th place overall was Sean ‘007’ Matthews in a PB time of 1:23:36 followed in just a couple of minutes later by Jon Crannage in 1:25:19, another personal best. Phil Walters was next in 1:28:35, taking a massive 3 minutes off his PB and recording a sub-1:30 half marathon for the first time. Paul Holmes and Ian Wallis completed the men’s results with Sarah Crannage, the lone Long Eaton lady competitor also recording a PB, by 2 minutes, in a time of 1:45:06.
Over at Darley Park the East Midlands Cross Country League reached its climax with sixteen runners competing from Long Eaton. Luke Seamer was the first man home for the club in 8th place overall and 36:30, followed by Richard Wilkinson and Clive Allison in 15th and 16th places and times of 37:40 and 38:02 respectively. In the Ladies race, Marianne Hensman managed a marvellous 3rd place in a time of 27:17, followed by Monica Fee in 7th place and 28:35 with Becca Knowles just a couple of minutes later in 21st place and 31:08.
