Erewash Cross Country & Folksworth 15
Neil Renault scored the first of two fantastic wins for Long Eaton Running Club at the weekend in a Super Sunday of running for the club both on and off road. After spending most of the winter trading places with clubmate Rod Harris, Renault burst through to take the Folksworth 15 from Harris by just five seconds, winning in a new course record of 1:19:57. Starting and finishing at Folksworth near Peterborough the race consists of 2 demanding, scenic laps taking in a couple of hills and the villages of Morlborne and Caldecote, and the 500-strong field was dominated by LERC with Renault first, Harris second in 1:20:02 (also breaking the old course record) and vet Andy McNeil third in 1:22:40, smashing the old V40 record by 2 minutes. Renault’s first prize was £75 and the three teammates shared a team prize of a variety of crystal. Further down the field Kev Holland completed his first long race of the year in 2:11:45 and 313th place.
At the same time and closer to home, Bramcote Park was the venue for the Erewash Running Club-organised round of the East Midlands Cross Country League where Paul Rowland scored the second of LERC’s weekend wins. On a still, cold Bramcote morning Rowland lead all the way, winning by around 100 metres and dropping the second placed runner at the end of the first of two extremely hilly laps and finishing in a time of 34:50. Vet Alan Seamer, 7th, was the second Long Eaton runner home, split from son Luke, 42:30 and 31st place by Richard Wilkinson - 13th place and 39:37 - and Clive Allison - 23rd and 41:19. Long Eaton’s ladies had a particularly good morning out, packing well to finish 6th, 8th, 10th and 16th – Marianne Henshaw clocking 22:32, Catherine Benson 22:50, Monica Fee 22:55 and Jodie Wilkes 23:49.
