Keyworth Turkey Trot
Long Eaton Running Club had one of their best results of the year on Sunday 11th December as Rod Harris stormed to a great half marathon victory in the Keyworth Turkey Trot, organised by 1st Keyworth Scouts and now in its 23rd year. Harris finished in 69:27, another PB and 34 seconds ahead of Derby AC’s Rob Jefferies, 70:01, with Long Eaton’s Andy McNeill coming home just 30 seconds later in 3rd place and a new V40 record, beating a previous best that had stood for two decades!
The drama wasn’t yet over however, as Clive Allison, finishing in 84:56 and 40th place came in as the third counter in Long Eaton’s Senior Team, putting both Nottingham University AC and Long Eaton on the same team points. After a tense wait while the tie-break rule was invoked, it was judged that Harris, McNeill and Allison had indeed won the team prize, due to a quicker aggregate time - 227:54 – than their rivals.
Meanwhile, in the V50 competition, Chris Robson (6th Long Eaton finisher) missed out on V50 victory by just 5 seconds! There were a total of 40 club runners competing, with, in addition to Harris, PBs for Jon Crannage, Rob Easter and Phil Abbot whilst in the Ladies race first home for the club once more was Mariane Hensman in 1:37:19 with Nicola Bennett also gaining a PB.
