Club entries Xmas draw 2014

Postby foxontherun » Thu Oct 03, 2013 4:59 pm

About to apply for the club's allocation now. No reason to think that we won't get 4 places again. As with last year, names of genuine ballot rejectees to me by 6 Dec. No rejection letter required, as they tend to be generic and impersonal now.

Add you names to this thread, or tell me and I will. That will mean that the on-going list will be visible to all. I'm sure that if anyone tries to pull a fast one, they will be "outed" straight away.

So far: Dave Boot. (50 on night of Xmas dinner)

Ash Patel (undecided)

You're on the list Mel. Just received notice that, unfortunately, we only qualify for 3 places this year. Not sure why one less than last year. Must be a change of policy.

Put me in the hat too, Rob. Me and Mel had twin rejection magazines on our doormat! :)

I think I recall someone once saying a club gets one entry per 25 members. Is this true and has our membership count fallen below 100?

It was per 50 members when I was membership secretary.

Don't panic Shep. Membership is a healthy 180+. One place per 50 members seems right, but for some reason we got 4 places last year.

I now think that the policy for accepting names for the draw for club entries on the basis of trust, is not sufficiently rigorous. The procedure must be completely transparent, as being one of the lucky winners is so important to many of you.

If you have already submitted your name, or are about to, please forward your original e-mail from VLM which shows that you were included in the ballot. A rejection letter will be fine as well, if it has your name on it and clearly refers to VLM 2014.

As I mentioned last night the club draw is undoubtedly another great opportunity for our members to get into the London marathon, but can we look to pull the draw closer to receiving the rejection notifications

Currently looking to draw on the 6th December ...........

By December, members keen to enter a marathon have possibly signed up to another marathon as they want to know or have a definite place for training to have started or planned by then

Maybe too late for this year and could discuss ........

Hear, hear, Rachel. I'd say do the VLM draw (asap) at The Bull's Head after club night once rejection letters have been received. You're right in saying that if you're planning to run a marathon in springtime the following year, xmas maybe to late to be unsure whether London is still an option.

Other clubs have their draws within a week, the xmas party doesn't NEED the prestige of the VLM draw as its already a night to look forward to what with the awarding of the summer league trophies..... and abba tribute act.

I've only just received notification of our 3 club entries, having applied at the earliest possible time. That doesn't mean that we couldn't have the draw sooner. However, we could have the draw on AGM night, which is always mid-Oct, 6-7 weeks before the Xmas dinner. It would be bad form to have the draw without the entries!!

I'd be happy to just have the awards to worry about.

AGM would be perfect really only a couple of weeks after the rejection letters and still loads of time for those who dont get in to enter something else
