Charity Selections TO FINALISE!

Postby Woolly » Sat Apr 25, 2015 4:19 pm

Hi all

Through a combination of procrastination and other things that get in the way, we need to finalise / donate the money built up in the charity account which equates to £673.20.

We, the committee have agreed to do 2 things .............

1. By vote the top charities from the list below that have been mentioned to us previously.

We would like to ensure that a mountain rescue benefits as we have always donated year on year to one for our fell league and off road adventures!

Some of these are national charities needing no explanation and some more local / requested personally from members.

* Edale Mountain Rescue

* Treetops

* Guide Dogs

* Royal National Institute for the Blind RNIB

* Maggies Centres - Support and caring for cancer patients and family

* Martin Jackman Centre - Caring for adults with learning difficulties, local in Aspley

* Lyme Disease org.uk - preventing & treatment advice support for this tick borne disease

2. New for 2015, we have agreed as a committee to offer a Marathon Charity Donation Draw of £50 for 2 members who are either have a charity place in the London Marathon or are raising donations for a charity for April marathons. Names to Rachel Argent for the draw to be conducted on 28th April at the club social night. The winners would then donate to their chosen cause.

All votes communicated forum, facebook or private message.

To finalise for the end of the month as start a fresh for 2015.

Cheers all

I very much like the draw for the Marathon runners, a great idea. For the other charities i personally think we would should support smaller ones, where we can make a difference, and local if possible. We should also consider charities who may be of use to us as runners. So that is most of them if not all, an excellent selection.

Can i suggest that we have a fixed number that we can nominate for fairness, either 2 or 3, depending how many we are going to donate to?

I would go for

1. Edale Rescue

2. Maggies Centre

3. Lyme disease.

I love the idea of the draw - it is a really good way of doing it, and putting a bit behind those who have chosen a cause to raise money for.

As for local, I'm not sure how you define it. The one in 'Aspley'? I've never heard of the place!

Anyway my vote is for Guide Dogs.

Get your Notts A-Z out Ant! Once you've regained your breath. Great run today, and the way you strode out for the run in, you must have known that the cameras were on you.

Regarding the charity donations. All suggestions are good ones. For no particular personal reason, my top three choices are: Edale MR, Royal British Legion & Cancer Research.

I just realised in future Parkrun should be on the list! It is after all a charity, and although I don't take part in it, think what they do is awesome!

Hi all

The results are in and the top 3 charities voted will receive a donation from us for £190 each.

After the charity selection poll on the website and responses received the results were

2. Colin Bloomfield Melanoma appeal http://www.skcin.org/colinbloomfieldmelanomaappeal/

3. Lyme disease

That's a great donation to 3 very good causes.
My name is not really Sheila, or Iris. It's just plain old Laura.
