October Runner of the Month - Laura Froggatt
At Long Eaton Running Club, we cater for all ages and abilities, from the 12 minute miler to the 12 miles an hour athlete. We run on Tuesdays and Thursdays, meeting at 6.30p.m. for an optional warm up session then start running at 7pm. We organise at least 2 different distances to cater for different abilities & if you are new a LERC member will stay with you so you won't get lost. After training, a few of us always go for a beer or two at a local pub, so please join us for a chat. Have a look around our site and if you fancy a run with us why not pop along one club night. Club run (Headtorch Run - Trent Lock - 6.00 miles);
*** Headtorch Required *** Head East through West Park to the canal bridge. After crossing, turn left onto Milner Road. Left on Lawrence Street and go through the gate onto the canal path. Turn left and follow the canal path to Trent Lock. At the bridge by the pub, cross the canal and turn right towards the golf centre. The river should be to your left. Immediately after passing under a railway bridge, take the footbridge left. Follow towpath to Tamworth Road. Turn right and head into Sawley and follow Tamworth Road all the way to the train station. Club run (25 Minute Out and Back - Winter Route - 6.00 miles);
Out and back route. After 25 minutes, turn back and re-trace your route. On the return leg, aim to overtake the runners in front of you and try not to get overtaken! Start by heading North on Wilsthorpe Road and turn right at the Roundabout onto Derby Road. At The Green roundabout, continue straight on along Nottingham Road. Continue past The Manor pub and stay on the main road toward Beeston. When you have been running for 25 minutes, turn back along the reverse of the route. Club run (Progression Run 1 - 3.30 miles);
Welcoming the graduates of the latest C25K group to the Tuesday night club runs. From West Park left onto Wilsthorpe Road, continue to rail station roundabout and turn left onto Tamworth Road. Follow through town to the Green and turn left onto Derby Road. Continue to the left turn onto Wilsthorpe Road and return to WPLC. Volunteers needed to run with the new runners so that none are left on their own. Runner of the Month
Congratulations to Laura Froggatt
A LERC member for nearly a decade, Laura is a regular at club nights and has tried her hand at everything and anything over the years. Her preference for finding longer distance races and unusual/difficult challenges, sometimes means that her ability and achievements go under the radar. Despite going strong for so long, October proved to be a very successful month for Laura with a parkrun PB of 24:39 at Long Eaton, also finishing as top V40. Laura then went up to York, to take on the 10 mile race and again set another PB, taking nearly 6 minutes off her previous best, which was set on the same course last year. To finish off the month, Laura also travelled with a select band of LERC'ers to enjoy the Cannock Chase Half marathon, in less than ideal conditions. Well done Laura!
