Long Eaton Running Club

Long Eaton Running Club is a friendly running club with over 200 members. We are a diverse group. We have notable success in helping to get people in the local area running through the Couch-to-5k programme, we are enthusiastic supporters of our local parkrun, and we are very successful in local competition.
Club nights are on Tuesday and Thursday each week; meeting at West Park Leisure Centre from 6.15pm, with the run commencing at 6.30pm. There are usually at least two options for distance and, if you are new to the club, you will be paired with a similar-paced runner to make sure you don't get lost. We offer trial membership for 4 weeks. So if you fancy a run with us, just drop us a message to let us know you will be coming along and then make yourself known when you arrive.

To get a feel for what the club is like ahead of your visit, please take a look around this website or our facebook page Read more about us here

Runner of the Month

Congratulations to John Pickering
This ‘choosing Runner of the Month’ lark just keeps getting harder. To recap March (for those who weren’t at the last Chip Cob Night) I’m therefore going to start out by talking about just a handful of those who didn’t win, but could well have done, any other month.
Ben Plummer represented Leicester & Rutland strongly in the national Inter-Counties cross country, finished fourth in the Forest of Dean Spring Trails Half Marathon, won the Sherwood Pines Half marathon, outright and was first finisher in 4 (four!) parkruns in the month…
A sizeable group of our fastest guys made the trip to Manchester and smashed the Trafford 10k, with five of the six setting new PBs, with the slowest clocking 35:17 (!). It’s worth remembering that these guys; Simon Crawford, Will Lunn-Pigula, Mark Boot, Darlington Magalela, Lewis Tandy & Mike Bland are generally much more focussed than the majority; loads of training (much of it intensive), already stellar past performances & targeted racing. These things combined makes it potentially harder to catch the eye for RotM, compared to those racing twice a week. There’s also the fact that Trafford was no flash-in-the-pan; they’re turning it on, whichever month their target race is in!
Oliver Cook set a unique LERC milestone on the other side of the world, with his completion of the 2024 Tokyo Marathon. This gave him the full set of the six international major marathons, along with: Boston (2016), London (2017), Chicago (2018), Berlin (2019) and New York (2022)
It’s far from easy comparing these (and other LERC) running achievements, but highlighting them hopefully speaks volumes about the guy who managed to surpass even these; John Pickering, Runner of the Month for March 2024. Still setting PBs - three in the month - even whilst competing in the VM65 category, was absolutely outstanding and reflects John’s hard work & contribution recently. This also included being a regular helper at our Monday Couch to 5k sessions:
• Alvaston Parkrun (02-03-2024) 27:53
• Nottingham 10K (10-03-2024) 55:59 (PB)
• Long Eaton Parkrun (16-03-2024) 28:02
• Long Eaton Parkrun (23-03-2024) 29:49
• Derby 10k (24-03-2024) 54:33 (PB)
• Long Eaton Parkrun (30-03-2024) 26:34 (PB)
Great work John and all those others mentioned – and all you other awesome LERCers! On to April…

Recent PBs

John Pickering (25:59 for 5k), Paul Needham (25:37 for 5k)
