Derby XC Champs

The posponement of the original date for the Derby XC Champs seemed like a bit of a bad one for Long Eaton Running Club as it meant that a lot of the runners who could make it on the original date couldnt run on the rearanged date at Markeaton Park. The snow and ice which caused the original cancellation was not in eveidence as the 9 Long Eaton runners who took part donned their XC shoes and ran the races. With Long Eaton being where it is the club had to be split in to Nottingham and Derby runners with the Notts XC Champs being held the week before. Organiser Dicky Wilkinson (who arranged both Notts and Derby Champs) had high hopes of maybe a couple of County Places and Medals with Rod Harris (Senior) and Rob Fox (Vet 50) the most likley of the men to do best and Sarah Harris fresh from her win at the recent North Midlands Cross Country League for the Women. AS it was, it turned out to be a brilliant day (and a really good suprise for Dicky) for the Long Eatoners as Rod came 5th and Got his County Vest, Rob Fox was 1st Vet 50 and with his finishing position is also reserve for the County, The mens Team WON!!!! the senior team event and the Women had a 100% medaling success with Sarah Harris winning her race by 400M and Claire Grace in her first XC champs winning bronze in her age Category, Dicky Wilkinson Himself also obtained 3rd place and Bronze medal in the Vet 50 category. But the most Shiney thing that was about on the day was Claire Graces Smile at the end of her race and then being presented with her medal. She hasnt stopped smiling since.
Well done to all who competed. Fantastic stuff
