1st at Milford Dualthlon

The New Years Eve duathlon in Milford is almost the last race of the year and consists of 2 2.5m mile out and back runs sandwiching a 9.2m cycle ride. This year 3 Long Eaton runners/cyclists competed in the event as teams.

'Team Abbott-Tucker' consisted of LERCer Phil Abbott and work college James Tucker.

Phil ran the undulating first leg in 14:57 in 8th place and over a minute behind the 1st runner. James then attacked the ride taking just 23:26 to complete the loop and in doing so carved through the field to be the 1st back at the 2nd transition gifting Phil a healthy lead in the process.

Phil Abbott then had the honour of bringing the pairing home clocking a consistent 14:57 for his second run of the morning.

'Team Birch', or John and Carole as we normally know them, also put in fine performances. John, who apparently dislikes cycling less than Carole, got the short straw and rode leg 2 in 34:49 whilst Carole was the only runner at the event to do a 'negative split' running 22:00 for leg 1 and 21:46 for leg 2.

Toast and homemade jams, hot drinks and minces pies were all on offer at the end making this event a great way to say goodbye to 2009.
