On Tuesday 17th June 2008, four Long Eaton runners took a break from the normal club training to compete in the Rothley 10k in Leicestershire. Despite a lack of marshalling and car parking facilities at the start of the race and not enough toilets and a tiny finishing area for 350 runners, the course itself was very scenic and also very tough, run over two laps with plenty of climb and fast descent.
Vicky Yeomans had her sights set on finishing under 44 minutes and with some support from her running buddy, Phil Abbott, she set a new personal best time of 43:46. Phil, who couldn’t stop himself sprinting with half a mile to go, finished in 43:40. Damien Cowlishaw crossed the line in 50:15, with Pete Sturgess completing the course in 56:19.
