Derwentwater Trail Race
On 1st September 2007 Phil Abbott, Vicky Yeomans and Kev Holland completed the Derwentwater Trail Race in Keswick. It was the second year this event has taken place in Keswick. In fact this trail race was the first introduction Phil and Vicky had to trail racing and shows how far they have come, having successfully completed Borrowdale only one year on! Phil knocked over 13 minutes off last year’s time, completing the trail race in 1:14. Vicky knocked over 8 minutes off her previous time, completing the race in 1:19. Kev completed the trail race in 1:37:09.
There were two events – the Derwentwater Trail race and the Derwentwater Challenge, which was completed by Karen Preston in a time of 1:52:12. Both follow a 14k course through some of the most scenic and varied countryside in the Lake District and the weather was perfect for running - light dizzle!
There were plenty of activities to keep family and friends entertained whilst the runners were busy making their way around the course, including, a steel band, a climbing wall and bouncy slides for the children and whilst the runners were getting slightly wet up in the mountains, the weather stayed dry for the spectators. Perfect conditions for all! The 4 Lercers will definitely be back to tackle the events next year.
