Summer League 2016

Post by foxontherun » Wed Mar 16, 2016 12:24 pm

The final list has yet to be "firmed up", but we have decided on races up to the end of April, as follows:

1. Notts AC Easter 10k - Mon 28 March

2. Belvoir Half - Sun 10 April --- With Ramathon & Newark Half (Back after a long absence, and Notts county champs 2016) to be included, my inclination was to omit this race? Only eight from LERC last year)

3. Booth's Dec RR League1 - Tue 12 April

4. Notts AAA RR League1 - Wed 13 April

Rest of league along lines of last summer, with inclusion of final table of Grand Prix series. Also Newstead Abbey Dash(5k), Notts 10, Notfast 10k & RHM (full) as county champs.

Full list confirmed next week.

Agree with omission of #2. I did it a few years ago and it was decent (2013?)... but there weren't many of us, and it is a long way to go for a 'local' race (and I don't remember it being cheap either). To keep the number down to something sensible (especially if all county races for both counties, and both road running leagues are to be fully included), leaving it out seems prudent.

For the number of events, ideally this would be as an absolute maximum, the number of events that count in the league, plus one less than the number of events that count. So if it is 10 to count, 19, if it is 8, then 15. This means that there will always be at least one head to head to separate any ties.

Any plans to include a marathon in the rankings this year? To keep it open to all the different ones people do, ideally it'd be ranked by time for any measured marathon within the summer league window (first race to last race). That would bring in London, Manchester, Brighton, and any others.

Lookign forward to seeing the full list. Also hoping Mansfield 10k isn't on this year (awful course, and woefully short).

Some good points Anthony. We will discuss them at tonight's committee meeting.

I agree with the argument about having 19 races, thus ensuring at least one head-to-head in the event of a tied first place. However, there are just too many good & popular local races to leave out. Plus, including them demonstrates the club's support for neighbouring clubs. There are quite a few 10k's so the Mansfield 10k won't be included. I'm sure that it will be a great race this year, but we have to draw the line somewhere.

The idea of a ranking list of marathon times over the period is interesting.

If you look at the first post to this thread, you will find your answer. Belvoir is in. I did suggest that there weren't enough club members in it last year, and that I considered omitting it.

That might be for next summer, if there is a low turnout this year.

A few details for the midweek races.

Tuesday 12 April - 7.15. Booth's Decorator's League at Teversal Grange, Skegby, NG17 3HJ. The same venue as previous years, but a changed course. The climb up to the highest point (in Nottinghamshire - allegedly?) has been taken out. The route follows the trails in the area, and is undulating but much flatter. 4.7 miles approx. Totally off-road.

Free parking. Visitor's Centre café & Football club bar open.

Wednesday 13 April - 7.15 Notts AAA Road League at Hexgreave Park. NG22 8LS. The same venue as last year. Off A617 mid-way between Mansfield and Newark. Course is minor local roads, Southwell Trail, some track and grass finish. 5.1 miles approx.

Both races are free to EA registered club members. Club colours required.

I'll type full list up here at the weekend for comments. Been too busy, Shaun's on holiday.

May races are 4th - Notts AAA at Holme PPt, 10th - Booth's at Ilkeston Rugby Club, 18th - Trent 5, 29th - Sinfin 10k.
Ramathon on 5th June may require advanced entry.

Otherwise, Notts 5 & 10. Further on - Notfast 10k & Newark Half , both County Champs. Wilne 10k & RHM.

Plus others. Full list by EoP Sunday.

Rob, according to Beeston ACs website the Trent 5 is on the 25th, not 18th May.

The rest of the races for this summer league are: (subject to amendment and mistakes)

May
4 - NRRL2 Holme Pierrepont NWSC
10 - BDRRL2 Ilkeston Rugby Club
25 - Trent 5 mile Beeston Marina
29 - Sinfin 10k Elvaston Castle Park

June
5 - The Ramathon
7 - BDRRL Denby Pottery Centre
22 - NRRL3 Hosted by Redhill RR - Rushcliffe Pk.
17 - Notts 10 mile Holme Pierrepont NWSC (Notts County Champs)
28 & 30 - Grand Prix Series races 1 & 2

July
5 & 7 - Grand Prix Series races 3 & 4. Nb - SL points awarded on final position in series table.
5 - BDRRL4 Carsington Water. Nb clash with GP series race 3!
10 - Notfast 10k Newark o T (Notts County Champs)
13 - NRRL4 Worksop College
16 - Crich Monument
20 - Notts 5 mile, Victoria Embankment
27 - The Run, EVRC at The Navigation, Breaston
29 - Newstead Abbey Dash 5k (Notts County Champs)

August
3 - NRRL5 Teversal Grange
5 - Castle Rock 10k (formerly Jägermeister)
9 - BDRRL5 Shipley Cricket Club
14 - Newark Half Marathon (Notts County Champs) NB new out-of-town start & finish course.

September
4 - Wilne 10k (Derbys County Champs/MMAC Champs)
25 - Robin Hood Marathon (Notts County Champs) Nb. Still to decide whether to consider all full marathons taking place within SL 1st & last race dates, ie, a ranking table of all club names/times, and SL points awarded on that basis. This is because so few enter the RHM. Original idea from Anthony Hatswell.

Including April's, 26 races in total across the range of distances. Just 10 counting races, so plenty to allow you to plan to your strengths and around your hols, earn a few club team scores, and bag the odd county medal. I'll give you all a couple of days to mull over this lot, then add to the calendar.
