Ed Prickett Memorial Relays 14th March 2015

Postby Woolly » Mon Feb 09, 2015 1:38 pm

It is the 11th Annual Ed Prickett Memorial Relays held in Nottingham at the university on the Saturday, 14th March 2015 1:30 pm

This is the 11th annual relays and is held in the memory of Ed Prickett. Who was one of the best sportsmen our university has ever seen! Unfortunately he had his life cruelly taken away from him when he was knocked down by a motor vehicle outside the Gateshead Stadium, whilst representing the University of Nottingham Athletics Club in the BUSA Outdoor competition on the 2nd May 2004.
As a mark of respect for Ed, the 2005 annual University organised race has been renamed: “The Ed Prickett Memorial Road Relays”. Ed was a remarkable Person whose enthusiasm and laughter reflected upon us all.

The relays are over a 2 mile course around the magnificent University Park, with teams of 4 for the men and 3 for the women.
There will be prizes for the fastest teams, and fastest individuals.

Starting and finishing on 'the downs', an open grassy space in the middle of campus, the course heads down towards the sports centre before taking a left and heading south towards the lake. The course then heads through a picturesque setting below the Trent Building alongside the lake towards the Arts centre before heading back up a challenging hill towards Hallward Library and back towards a very fast downhill finish section.
The course is well marshalled (yellow dots on the map) and solid underfoot with ample space at the start/finish for club tents. After the race, teams are invited inside for the results and presentations with awards for the fastest individuals and teams. For teams their are three categories; Overall, Clubs and Intramural.

Last year we had 2 ladies and 4 men's teams. Just over 2 miles of picturesque scenery and great team spirit with encouragement.
Cost is £4.50 each and we can coordinate club entries together, post on here or see me.
Please add your name if you are interested in taking part this year

There will be a free injury Prevention Workshop held on the morning before the relays, for anyone to attend and no need to book. This has been organised by Nottinghamshire Athletics Network and will take place at Cripps Hall on the campus, at 10.30, and will last for 90 mins.

There will be a short presentation by Tim Egerton, a well-respected strength and conditioning coach, followed by a hands-on practical.

Perfect for a complete warm-up in readiness for the relays.
